SAP Material Master is a part of SAP MM module. This  is being used to create Material Master Records in SAP.  SAP Material Master records includes  some information about a material that defaults to an SAP system task when you enter the material number.

General in SAP the creation of material records access should be  limited to a small group of  sap users who can be called  as the Material Master Record Maintainers in SAP.

SAP Material Master Creation –Procedure to be followed:

  1. The SAP user who want to create any material master   should justify the need for a SAP  material master to be created.
  2. The SAP Material Master Record Maintainer receives a request in prescribed form from the sap user  to create a new SAP Material Master Record.

Check material master’s record if already available

  1. The Material Master Record Maintainer  will check and verifies that a sap material master does not already exist in the sap system for the specific material using the system  through  displat of SAP Material Master records.
  2. After checking of this in sap data base, SAP Material Master Record does not already exist for the item or material, than he will  Create a material master or he will reject the request.

How to create a SAP Material Master

  1. SAP Material Master Record Maintainer obtains the required material information for data entry from the requisitioner’s submitted information.
  2. Material Master Record maintainer creates a new  SAP Material Master Record using the system task Create a Material Master Record for a Stock Material.

Inform to person who requested to create material master

  1. The requisitioner is informed  that the Material Master Record exists and is given the corresponding material number.
